The Gender Centre for Empowering Development (GenCED) on Tuesday December 1, 2020 launched a research report on “Violence Against Women Within Political Parties”.
The research, which covered the operations, structures, and processes of the major political parties in Ghana (NDC, NPP, CPP, PNC, PPP) made some revelations about issues that hamper women’s full political processes and governance in Ghana.
According to the report, out of a hundred (100) women interviewed during the survey, 44% have ever experienced verbal violence, 50.8% have encountered emotional/psychological violence and 23.7% have suffered sexual violence in their political life so far.
The survey also indicated that 69% have however never faced any of these forms of gender-based violence in the political space yet.
The event which was attended by representatives of the major political parties saw a show of acceptance and solidarity for the work being done by GenCED.
