The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says its provisional results indicate that the party has flipped some 36 parliamentary seats nationwide.

According to the party’s Director of Elections, the feat is historic, as some of these seats will be occupied by the NDC for the first time in Ghana’s 4thRepublic.

At a press conference in the early hours of Tuesday, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah announced that in Greater Accra Region, the NDC has won the Krowor, Ledzekuku, La Dade-Kotopon, Tema East, Adenta, Madina, Ablekuma Central, and Okaikwe North parliamentary seats.

These seats are currently occupied by representatives of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Giving more details, Mr. Ankrah said Ayensuano, Upper Manya, and Akwatia Constituencies in the Eastern Region have also been won by the NDC.

In the Western Region, he said the NDC has won the Amenfi East, Prestea Huni Valley, Jomoro and Evalejura constituency seats.

Central Region constituencies like Ekumfi, Upper Denkyira West, Awutu Senya West, Cape Coast North, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Twifo Atimokwa, Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, and Gomoah West have also been flipped by the NDC, he added.

In the Ahafo Region, Jaman North and Dormaa West have been flipped while Jaman South and Tano South in Bono Region have been won by the NDC, the party’s Director of Elections said.

Other key areas include Nkoranza North and South, Techiman North and South, both in the Bono East Region, and Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region.

“99 percent of these figures are not skirt and blouse votes, so it reflects in the Presidential race,” Mr. Afriyie Ankrah added.

With vote counting still underway, the NDC Director of Elections admonished party supporters to not indulge in premature celebrations but to remain vigilant.

“We charge all our counting and collation agents to be vigilant and alert in the last hours of the counting in order to secure and protect the overwhelming victory that is coming.”

We also charge all our party supporters to move to the various collation centres to ensure that the will and mandate of the people are not stolen”.

The National Democratic Congress needs to secure a total of 32 seats in addition to its current 106 in order to acquire a majority in Parliament.
