Ghana is entering the critical phase in the coronavirus fight as Health Service awaits the results of 15,384 people, President Akufo-Addo has said.

Addressing the nation on the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, he said that these people were among some 19,276 who were reached through the contact tracing of persons who had tested positive for the virus.

The results of these tests, according to the president, will determine the fate of the country in the fight against the coronavirus.

“We are thus about to enter a critical phase of our fight in the coming week…it is the results of these tests that will determine our future course of action.”

“Government’s policies and measures will continue to be driven by the science in this matter,” President Akufo-Addo stated.

He also stated that the decision to extend or call off the lockdown will be taken in the course of the week as government continues to assess the situation.

Meanwhile, Ghana has confirmed 214 cases of coronavirus with five deaths and 31 recoveries.

Also, of the 1,030 people who were mandatorily quarantined when the came into the country, about 925 underwent two tests and have been found negative.

The government is making arrangements to get these travellers to their respective homes.

“I want to thank all of them and their families and loved ones for their understanding and co-operation with the stringent procedures that Government was forced to deploy in the public interest,” President Akufo-Addo said.
