Spelling Bees are competitions held on local, regional, national and international level where children from around the world compete against each other in spelling and grammar.
These competitions have ground to a halt because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In Ghana, Eugenia Tachie-Menson – country director of the Young Educators Foundation and organiser of the Spelling Bee competition – felt they must go on.
On Sunday, 12-year-old Tenzin Mainoo became the regional champion.
BBC Focus on Africa radio presenter Bola Mosuro spoke to Ms Tachie-Menson and Tenzin.
